Qaseedah Burdah: Chapter 3, Part 1

————————————————————————————————————

Chapter 3 – the longest chapter of the Qaseedah Burdah and one of the most beautiful so far.. In praise of Habeebuna

When we were doing this part, our Ustaad stopped for a while and just sighed, murmuring – how to explain…
He then mentioned: Safeguard the Sunnah and the etiquette of Sunnah. If you bring your life onto total Sunnah, you get a lot of benefit.

He further explained that the heart and limbs are connected. The heart is like a mirror. It can only reflect the sun when three conditions are fulfilled:
1. It is polished (thus we should refrain from lustful desires)
2. Its surface is illuminated (our heart becomes illuminated with Dhikr and the recognition of Allah Ta’aala)
3. It is smooth and not warped (this is when the actions of our limbs are in perfect harmony and equilibrium).
When these conditions are found, then there will be a reflection of Allah Ta’aalas special mercies.

Medication generally has two effects:
1. The effect and reaction is compatible with reason, for instance, honey is hot so it benefits people with cold temperaments.
2. The effect and reaction is generally not compatible with reason, such as those things that are known from Wahi or experience, for instance. In this case, just like actions, the effects are clear. Dhikr leads to the Ma’rifah (recognition) of Allah Ta’aala, which leads to His love, which leads one to becoming enthusiastic for the everlasting pleasures, resulting in one departing from the world happily.

I have oppressed the way of life of that personality who stayed awake at night to such an extent
That his blessed feet complained of pain due to being swollen

Heص tied his stomach out of severe hunger and heص folded
Under the stone, the soft skin of the side of his body

And the high mountains tried to tempt Rasul صلى الله عليه و سلم that they will turn into gold
For him, so heص showed those mountains his loftiness (heص rejected)

And his needs strengthened his disinclination from the world
Verily need never overpowers his infallibility

And how can need incline such a personality to the world
For had it not been for him, the world would not have come out of nonexistence.

We should show regret at abandoning Sunnah!

Look at the condition of our Habeeb A Nabi is the strongest of his nation. Nabi صلى الله عليه وسلم was physically very strong. The swelling of his feet indicates the extent of his exertion. We do injustice to the Sunnah. Even Aadam عليه السلام had to take the name of Nabi صلى الله عليه و سلم to seek forgiveness. He cried to Allah for 300 years, then beseeched Allah Ta’aala in the name of that Nabi whose name was by Allah Ta’aalas on the Throne.

The greatest difference between us and Sahaba رضي الله عنهم is that they lived the Sunnah. Respect and dignity were granted to them due to this. Our decline is due to the absence of Sunnah. There is a vacuum of Sunnah in our lives. If a flight is going to Madeenah Shareef, a person cannot sit on a plane going to America and think that there is one seat going to Madeenah Shareef. We are sitting in the wrong seats of life and hoping to attain the Pleasure of Allah Ta’aala. There is only peace and happiness in following the Sunnah.

Let us make an effort to try and bring alive ALL Sunnah, InshaAllah.

The media portrays us as barbaric. We have to implement the Sunnah, and let the world see the real Islam. Nabi e Kareem صلى الله عليه و سلم was soft in nature.

At the time of the Battle of the Trench, a 10 000 alliance marched to Madeenah Shareef. Salmaan Faarsi رضي الله عنه suggested that a trench be dug. The trench was 3.5 miles long, and 3.5 miles in depth. Nabi صلي الله عليه وسلم himself went down and picked up the axe. It was at this time that Sahaba رضي الله عنهم saw that heص had a stone tied to his mubarak belly.
(side note: why a stone? 1. It would aid them to stand up straight and 2. The stomach has the quality of heat, as does hunger. The stone is cold, so it penetrates and cools the body.)

We have to sacrifice. There is no reformation without qurbani. When the Nabi of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم had to sacrifice, you can’t expect not to. Wake up at night and sacrifice your sleep. How can we expect to reach spiritual heights without sacrifice. The more hardship we put out nafs through, the more valued we will become in the sight of Allah Ta’aala. Those who make extra qurbani will rise to the top.

Nabi صلى الله عليه وسلم was offered great wealth, gold and women. He too had needs of this dunya, but heص did not run behind the world. Heص was independent. A person in need may sin to fulfil his need. But Nabi صلى الله عليه وسلم was معصوم despite his needs. The world was in need of him to come into existence, how can he be in need of it.
