Leena – Student Life

It’s Sunday, and this means NO PANCAKES because I don’t like pancakes. Shocking, right? I find it too bland for my tastebuds though.

However! I decided to make churros the other day because I was craving some. They turned out pretty good (Masha Allah), even though I’m not one to brag. Mama however, thinks that it’s too “fancy” :’D

Enough about food. Here’s a little tale for you guys.

If you’ve read the About page, you know a bit about me. This means that you know I’m a third year student which, let me assure you, is no walk in the park.

Let’s take this upcoming week as an example.

I have 6 semester tests scheduled over 5 days. At my university, we write semester tests in the evening. This basically equates to no sleep for me this week.

One thing that keeps me going is…nothing. I have literally pulled only one all-nighter in my life, and this was in my first year of uni, when I had a semester project due. I have no idea how I did it, but I stayed awake doing frame-by-frame animation through the night, right up until Fajr time, at which time I finally(!) submitted the darn thing and tried to sleep. Sadly, sleep evaded me.

Later that day, while yawning my head off waiting for a lecture to begin, my friend comes up to me and says, “Did you hear that the —120 project due date is extended?” Well, that was a wasted sacrifice because I decided to redo the project anyway because I wasn’t happy with the first one.

Some people swear by coffee to keep themselves awake. I cannot. I don’t know if my body is immune to the effects of caffeine, because I drink coffee almost every day. Whatever the reason, that’s my sad story.

(I thought I’d start off my series of posts on a lighter note, rather than beginning with some deep, philosophical thoughts about ethics that have been going around in my head.)

Has this ever happened to you? I’d love to hear from you guys!

Keep me in your duas!

x
